Note to King Lear, 3.4.130: "the wall-newt and the water"

King Lear,
Act 3, Scene 4, line 130
A newt is a kind of salamander. According to Wikipedia, "Newts metamorphose through three distinct developmental life stages: aquatic larva, terrestrial juvenile (eft), and adult." This leads me to suppose that a water newt is the aquatic larva, and the "wall-newt" is either the juvenile or adult, both of which live on land.
