Search Tips

"Any . . . All . . . Exact Phrase"

--Use either "Any" or "All" to search for a single word.

--Use "Any" to search for any of two or more words. Do not put commas between the words, just spaces.

--Use "All" to search for scenes which contain all of the words you enter. Do not put commas between the words, just spaces.

--"Exact Phrase" means exactly what it means. Even an extra space between words can throw the search off. And do not use quotation marks.

"Case sensitive"

--Useful if you're looking for a character's name, but not his/her speech headings, which are usually all upper-case.

"Partial match"

--Searchs for both whole words and parts of words. For instance, a search on "love" will return love, beloved, loved, and loves, but also glove.

"misspellings allowed"

--Might be useful, but it is tricky. If you type in "fair," allowing one misspelling will find "fair," far," "fail," "fain," "air," and "hair." Allowing two misspellings makes for really weird results.

The Search Results Page:

It's a list of scenes which contain the word(s) you searched for. The name of a scene (for example, MACBETH, Act 1, Scene 1) is also a link to that scene. Under the name of a scene will be a list of lines which contain your search word(s), with your word(s) bolded in red. (Allowing misspellings turns off the bolding.) Preceding each line will be pointer (>>>) which is a link to the line in the complete text of the scene.
