Romeo and Juliet Navigator Home | Selected Online Resources |
Contents: This is a single-page study guide. There are seven sections: "Setting," "Background information," "Characters," "Plot summary," "Themes," "Key Issues," and "Moral lessons." Everything is very short. The longest section, the plot summary, is less than 300 words, and Romeo and Juliet each receive five very short and very simple sentences. Evaluation: Maybe doing this page was good for those who did it, but I don't see how anyone else could get much out of it. The site is littered with errors of grammar and fact, and the discussions of "Themes" and "Key Issues" are just bland statements of commonplace morality, such as "The two are too hasty to get married; they never thought about what could go wrong." At the bottom of the page is a disclaimer: "The Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District and the English Department of Calhoun High School are not responsible for any errors that may be found in these guides." Weasels! The page is on the school district site; the school district should take responsibility. Bottom Line: Sophomoric. |
